4th of July Pet Safety Tips

It’s almost Independence Day! The 4th of July is synonymous with BBQs, fireworks, swimming and other summer fun activities. However it is important to consider your pets as you celebrate. This day can be scary and dangerous for pets. As you plan your 4th of July festivities, consider the following tips:

  1. Create a safe space for your pet during fireworks that is quiet and comfortable with their favorite bed, toys and water.
  2. White noise or soothing music can help mask the noise of fireworks.
  3. Close windows and curtains to minimize light and sound from fireworks.
  4. Make sure your pet’s microchip and ID tags are up-to-date in case they get out.
  5. Keep pets away from hot grills, sparklers, fireworks, charcoal, glow sticks, citronella candles, tiki torch fuel, etc.
  6. Avoid feeding table scraps and stick to their usual pet food and treats.
  7. Keep pets out of the sun and provide plenty of water, especially if it is a hot day.
  8. Check your yard for fireworks debris before you let your pet outside.
  9. Do not apply sunscreen or insect repellent to your pets that is not labeled for use on animals.
  10. Never let your pet swim alone, unattended, in unsafe conditions, or in unclean water.

We hope you have a fun and safe 4th of July!
