10 Tips for Traveling with Your Pet

Summer is here and that means road trips, vacations and adventures! Is your pet traveling with you this summer? Before you embark on your trip, it’s important to think about how you will keep your pet safe, comfortable and happy. As you make your summer travel plans, consider the following tips:

  1. Prepare your pet for a long ride in the car by taking several short rides ahead of time.
  2. When traveling by car, secure your pet in a crate or with a harness and seat belt in the back seat.
  3. Make sure your pet is up-to-date on their vaccinations and that you have any health records that you might need.
  4. Make a travel kit complete with food, bottled water, treats, bowls, leash, poop bags, first-aid supplies, medication, and a favorite toy for comfort.
  5. Never leave your animal alone in a parked vehicle.
  6. Make sure your pet’s microchip information and ID tags are up-to-date with your current contact details.
  7. If you’re flying, try to book direct flights for a less stressful experience.
  8. Don’t let your pet drink or swim in stagnant or discolored water.
  9. If you’re staying in a hotel, make sure it is pet-friendly when booking.
  10. Give your pet time to acclimate when you reach your destination.

We hope you have a fun and safe summer!
