Tick Prevention Tips

Spring has sprung! Warmer weather is great for playing in the yard, longer walks, and going on adventures. But it also means increased tick activity. While you enjoy spring with your pets, keep the following tick prevention tips in mind:

  1. Flea and tick preventive is very important for pets that go outside. There are many flea and tick collars, topical treatments and oral preventives available. Ask your veterinarian which product they recommend for your pets.
  2. Make your outdoor space less tick-friendly by mowing your lawn regularly, trimming shrubs & bushes, and removing leaf & stick debris.
  3. Refrain from taking your pet into tall grass, brush, or wooded areas where ticks like to hang out.
  4. Discourage tick-carrying rodents and critters from spending time in your outdoor space by keeping it clean and free of food sources.
  5. After going outside, thoroughly check your pet for ticks. If you find a tick, remove it immediately. Use fine-tipped tweezers, get as close to the skin surface as possible, gently secure the tick and pull straight upward with steady pressure.

We hope you have a wonderful, tick-free spring!
