APF Staff Spotlight: Gina Lamagna, Director of Human Resources and Administration

Meet Gina Lamagna, Director of Human Resources and Administration at the Animal Protective Foundation. Gina has been with the APF for 5 years and we are so grateful to have her on our team!

Tell us what you do here at the APF: I oversee payroll, benefits, employee support, and recruitment and hiring. I also make sure the APF is compliant with all labor laws and regulations. Additionally, I serve on our leadership team, safety committee, and employee activities committee. Not only do we help to maintain a safe workplace, but we also try to come up with very creative and unusual activities and events to foster a fun and engaging environment!

What do you enjoy most about working at the APF? Seeing the passion our employees have for providing the best care for our shelter pets and the patients in our community spay and neuter clinic. I’m also proud that the APF helps our community members who may be struggling to care for their pets; whether we provide donations of food, or wellness checks and vaccines at our no-cost wellness clinics, the APF is here for our community!

Tell us about something you accomplished here at the APF that you are particularly proud of: Within the past 6 months I oversaw the implementation of a new payroll platform. Our new platform has a built-in staff scheduling system for our shelter employees and allows us to post open positions through various hiring platforms, perform background checks, and better manage the fine details of insurance enrollments.

Do you have any pets at home? I recently lost my constant companion, Sasha. She was a senior shih tzu mix I adopted from the APF in 2020. She was the Thelma to my Louise, the Laverne to my Shirley, the Cagney to my Lacey. She was the unofficial ‘office manager’ who made a point of walking up and down the hall at lunchtime to look for samples.  I still think I see her out of the corner of my eye, especially when I roll my office chair back. I still turn around to make sure I’m not rolling over her tail.

What do you like to do in your free time? I practice Transcendental Meditation and am an avid reader. I also love live music and dancing like no one’s watching.
