Ginny’s Blog:  The Day After
Monday, April 21 2008

I am so happy! First, I want to thank all of my feline friends and their humans who worked so hard to make Snoozapalooza a big success! We have matched the anonymous $1,000 gift and donations are still coming in! The picture at left shows me sleeping yesterday with a smile on my face because I'm dreaming about everyone who cared enough to help our homeless friends. The deadline is this Friday, so there's still time to qualify for your cat mat and catnip pillow.

Thank you all so much! Ginny

Ginny’s Blog:  FINAL Training Day
Saturday, April 19 2008

Today, female human was engaged in something she calls “working from home.”  Of course I (being a kitty) did not understand this concept, especially on such a gorgeous day! I felt that it was my duty as a feline to prevent my human from such a travesty. So I slept the hardest, the longest, and the fattest I have ever slept: directly on top of her computer’s keyboard. I refused to budge. Not tuna, nor catnip, nor the promise of belly rubs could get me to move from my spot. And as my human was nearly in tears from frustration, I thought to myself “I meant what I said, and I said what I meant. A kitty cat’s faithful, 100 percent!”

After my keyboard sleepathon, I am now fully prepared for the Snoozapalooza. I came, I saw,
I napped. Watch out world, here I come!

UPDATE!

Sunshine has found her furever home! But there are many kitties still waiting, and they need your help. Please donate to the Snoozapalooza to ensure more happy endings like Sunshine's.

Remember - you have until
April 25th to get those donations in!

Raise $100 or more and receive a
cozy fleece cat mat and fragrant
catnip pillow.

BIG News!
An anonymous donor has offered to match
ALL DONATIONS made between now and our donation deadline, April 25, up to $1,000!

Click above to make a general donation, or to support the sleeping feline of your choice.
You can also send a check to the APF at
53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.

This donation is being made in honor
of my special friend and guest blogger Sunshine.
(See yesterday's blog.) She's a cool, laid-back cat
and one heck of a good sleeper! She kinda looks like me, but not as voluptuous.

Now back to my training ...

Thursday, April 17 2008

Hey guys and gals - Ginny is busy cramming in some extra training, so she asked me to fill in for her. My name is Sunshine. Not only am I a guest blogger, but I am also a current resident of the APF, one of the homeless kitties who will benefit from the Snoozapalooza. I've been here since February, and I must say everyone at the shelter has been very kind to me ... but it's just not the same as a real home. I'm quiet, mellow, and laid-back. I like other cats, but I'd be just as happy being somebody's one and only. So if you're looking for a low-maintenance feline friend, I'm your gal! Well, I'd best be getting back to the adoption floor. I just know my furever family is out there somewhere. Please come visit me and thanks for supporting Snoozapalooza!

Fluffy and I got together to discuss Jezebel's Kitten Shower, and she said her humans entered to win what they call a "raffle." She said the APF has this really cool gift basket with tons of kitty stuff - toys, treats, and a nice comfy bed. Best yet, all the money from ticket sales goes to help the shelter pets. Tickets are just $1 each - so start looking under the couch cushions.
When I'm done sleeping on them, of course.

Once I finish these %&$@! taxes I can get back to my training! The big day is this Sunday. Come on guys -- let's go for $5,000! The orphaned kittens have already started arriving - not to mention all the adults.

I swear there used to be a deduction
box for pets. Didn't there?

We've broken $4,000! Come on kitties, we're down to the final week. Time to really get your snooze on. Warm weather is here, so that means that the shelter will soon be full of homeless cats who need your help.

Humans: there's still time to register - just click the link at the top of my blog!

Now if you'll excuse me, I am quite busy today.
I am not only training, but I am doing a bit of multitasking by pressing the human's dress shirts while I sleep. What would they do without me?

Snuck over to Fluffy’s house again. You would not BELIEVE the juicy gossip she just heard... Jezebel, the calico around the corner, just found out she’s pregnant! I just about spit out my Cat-Sip when she told me. And we all thought Jezebel was spayed. Turns out her humans "never got around to it." While we are horrified at this salacious bit of news, Jezebel is our friend, and we need to support her. Fluffy and I are starting to plan her Kitten Shower, but we will need help from you humans. Stay tuned for more info!

Ah - patch of sunlight. Great sleeping spot!

Ginny’s Blog:  Training Day 27
Tuesday, April 8 2008

While my humans were at work today, I decided to cheat, and I joined the neighbor cat Fluffy for tuna and cocktails (aka Cat-Sip). Fluffy's humans are away on what they call “vacation,” so we had the whole couch to ourselves. We had a rousing discussion about the horrors of pet over-population. Did you know that one pair of unaltered cats and all their offspring can create
80 million cats in just 10 years? Too many furkids have nowhere to go. Fluffy and I feel so blessed to have found homes – but there are plenty of kitties who are not as blessed.
Check out the animals available for adoption at www.animalprotective.org.

P.S. The photo to the right is me after too much
Cat-Sip (goes straight to my head, I tell ya!)

Ginny’s Blog:  Training Day 26
Monday, April 7 2008

As you can see, I'm sporting a new fashion accessory, a collar and ID tag. Despite the fact that I have not been wearing one in my previous entries, I want to go on the record with a strong endorsement of collars and tags for all cats and dogs. I also feel it's time to share something very personal.

In my previous life, I did wear a collar. However it was a flea collar and did not fit properly. As the result of wearing this horrible, toxic, too-tight and unattractive band around my neck for years, I now have a hairless strip around the back side of my neck, which makes wearing a collar somewhat uncomfortable for me. So I'm slowly adjusting. This one is much better.

When I was at the shelter, many of my friends knew they had a home, but just couldn't find their way back to it. They held out hope that their families would find them, but for most if them, it never happened. The good news is that they found new homes.

So kitties - wear your ID. And choose something attractive, for pete's sake! I'm getting lots of compliments about how pretty I look in pink. (Molly Ringwald - eat your heart out.)

PS - Today's Snoozapalooza total is $3,815. I just know we can break $5,000!

Sleep Pose of the Day: The Jabba

This pose is strictly for kitties of "substantial proportion," such as myself. The Jabba is accomplished by seating oneself on the human’s couch or chair. Raise your front feet, using the arm of the couch for balance if needed. Now lean back slightly, allowing your belly to flow freely over your hind feet, a la Jabba the Hut (but much cuter). Bonus points for sneering at humans or rambunctious cat-siblings. Advanced snoozers will actually be able to sleep in this pose, while the novice snoozer will simply tip over and capsize like a Weeble Wobble.

Now bring me Solo and the Wookie - I'm ready
for my tuna!

It's a rainy, dreary day ... great sleeping weather. But just for variety, I decided to sit in a box for a while to see if it would impact my REM sleep. (Naturally the copycats had to get in on the action.)

We've had no new kitties sign on in the past few days. Come on guys! The there are lots of cats out there counting on us! The big day is April 20. And don't forget about the cat mat and catnip pillow you'll receive for your efforts.

First I wore myself out making some upholstery adjustments to the humans’ chair. Actually, that’s about it. This snow has me too depressed to do much else. What is this global warming
the humans are always speaking of?

Ah, well. Commence sleeping!

Last night I took a brief break from training to watch my favorite show: A-meow-ican Idol. While the photo at left may portray a feline disgusted with reality TV, this is merely a facade. I admit it - I love Idol! Simon called Chikezie's performance "cheesy" - I don't know what that is, but if it means "makes me want to sleep," then I'm on board with Simon. David Cook is so dreamy - almost makes me wish I were a human!

Speaking of dreamy, it's time for a nap...

"Kitteh Loaf"

Ginny’s Blog:  Training Day 10
Saturday, March 22 2008

Today I mastered the Cat Loaf position, also known as the Kitteh Loaf. Some of you humans may not know this dialect we call Cat Speak. Internet phenomenon I Can Has Cheezburger (http://icanhascheezburger.com) defines a Cat Loaf thusly:

“A position where the kitty has tucked all appendages under him or herself,
thereby resembling a small (or large) loaf of bread.”

As my female human cooed over my masterful Lazy Loaf technique, the
male human commented that according to myth, a cat sleeping in
this fashion means cold weather is coming. Let's hope not!

You wouldn’t know it by looking outside, but today is the first day of spring. So take the time to smell the roses - or daisies, or lilies... My furry friends are buzzing with excitement at the coming of spring: birds to watch at the window, long strolls outside (on a leash, of course) and fresh breezes coming in. Unfortunately, love is also in the air, and all the unaltered cats start breeding in the spring. As a result, a feline phenomenon called “Kitten Season” occurs, and the shelter sees an influx of kittens and pregnant mom cats.

You can help! Signing up for Snoozapalooza is a great way to support the shelter and homeless cats. And it’s really easy – just click here.
It took my human just a few minutes to set up our page. Plus, once you sign up, you can send in “training photos” like the ones at the right.
Please e-mail photos to
apf.tata@gmail.com

Happy first day of spring!

I'm celebrating St. Paddy’s Day by venturing to sleep on everything green in the house. My brother tried to tell me that today was his own purr-sonal holiday, just because his name is Patrick. Stupid kid brother.  (Sometimes I lick all his toys while he sleeps.)  Anyway, the female human attempted to put some sort of little green hat onto my head, but I had it knocked off by the time she came back with the camera. (Hence no photo today.) Then, while she wasn’t looking, I drank the milk out of her cereal.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Ginny’s Blog:  Training Day 3
Saturday, March 15 2008

Today I did some heavy-duty snooze training
for style points. Some highlights:

  • directly next to the coffee pot (cozy)

  • hanging upside down off the ottoman

  • on top of couch (prime head-swatting location)

  • on female human’s head while she slept

  • on dining room table during human
    feeding time

  • in small cardboard box (I can fit, I swear!)

  • on top of fridge, after clearing it of all extraneous boxes of human food

  • in the bathtub, behind shower curtain
(extra bonus for scaring the dickens out of male human at 5 am)

This morning I took a break from sleeping to check
my e-mail.  I was so excited to find our first photo of a feline friend in training.  Laurie is off to a great start, and I must say her sleeping technique is stellar.  Keep those photos coming!

Sleep pose of the day:  The Otter.
Instructions:  lie flat on back. Curl front paws towards chest, as a Sea Otter.  Let back legs fall to the side, showing world your naughty bits.
Sleep.  Feel the burn.

Bonus points for grooming self whilst sleeping.

Ginny’s Blog: Training Day 1
Thursday, March 13 2008

Greetings, furry friends! Today begins my strenuous training for the Snoozapalooza.
My human says that I must build up my sleeping muscles so that I can out-wit, out-play, and
out-nap all the other kitties. I have been feverishly sending out e-mails and letters to all my fellow felines, letting them know about the event.

Stay tuned for inspiring updates to my training blog.
I’ll be here to “pump you up” and get you in tip-top (sleeping) shape for the big day. Get your human
to take a photo of you in training, and we’ll post it
on our website.

Alone, we merely nap.
Together, we save the world!
