Finding Your Lost Pet
If you have lost a pet, call the shelter immediately at 374-3944, ext. 101 to file a lost report.
The APF houses stray dogs brought to us by animal control officers from several Schenectady County communities, including Duanesburg, Rotterdam, Niskayuna, and the City of Schenectady. We can provide a contact list of other shelters and animal control officers that you also should contact. We make every attempt to find the original owner of a lost pet.
PLEASE put collars and ID tags on ALL of your cats and dogs. It is the simplest thing you can do to help ensure the return of your lost pet. Each year millions of owned, lost animals end up in shelters, never to be reunited with their owners because they are unidentified. We also encourage microchipping and scan every incoming animal for a chip.
If you find a stray pet, please contact us to file a found report and for more information on what to do.If you have found a dog, please contact animal control through your local police non-emergency number.
