National Be Kind to Animals Week
(May 3-9, 2009
) is dedicated to raising awareness about treating animals with kindness and respect.

The APF again celebrated this special week with our 7th Annual Children's Essay and Poster contest. It was a wonderful opportunity to teach children about the importance of kindness and responsibility toward animals.

The contest was open to all students in 1st through 5th grade. This year’s theme was “Tell Me a Story About Animals.”

The 40 winners, along with their families and teachers and principals, celebrated at a wonderful awards reception at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady on Monday, May 4.

We recommend these wonderful animal books that were donated as prizes for the 2009 contest by their authors or publishers:
