National Be Kind to Animals Week
(May 4-10, 2008
) is dedicated to raising awareness about treating animals with kindness and respect. It takes an entire community (including children) cooperating together and showing compassion and support to make a difference for the many unwanted animals in our neighborhoods.

Thank you to all who entered the 2008
"Be Kind to Animals" Poster and Essay Contest - we received over 1,000 great posters and essays from all over the Capital Region. Congratulations to all the winners!

A wonderful awards reception was held for the 35 contest winners on Monday evening, May 5th and we would like to thank Schenectady County Community College for letting us host the event at their site. We would also like to thank Allied Advertising in Syracuse for donating many movie-themed goodies for prizes and the authors and publishers of the books listed below for donating and signing their wonderful animal books for the winners.

A special thank you to Ruth Tietz and our friends at Family Medical Care in Scotia who underwrote the cost of the reception. Without the support of the community, we could not offer this contest and reception!
