The animals we care for at the APF always need food, attention, medicine, and a clean, safe place to stay while they wait for homes of their own. You can help make their stay here more comfortable by donating items from our Wish List. Your donations allow funds budgeted for these items to be used in other important ways.

Every dog deserves a soft, comfortable place to sleep while waiting to be adopted. You can help by donating a Kuranda dog bed by clicking below.

Wish List

We no longer have a need for donated DRY cat or dog food.
The APF is now using Hill's Science Diet brand cat and dog food.
Through their shelter program, we only pay shipping and receive all the kibble we need.
Thanks to recent generous donations from area schools, we are all set with canned food for awhile, the only food items we are looking for is canned KITTEN food and KMR formula.

If you do have dry pet food you would like to donate to someone in need, contact the Schenectady Inner City Ministry (SICM), 839 Albany Street, Schenectady. Their phone number is 346-4445.

Spring is here and that means an influx of cats and kittens into the shelter.

As of May 3, we are in dire need of Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR brand only, please) and bottles.
We also need a few digital scales (that weigh in ounces) to make sure babies are growing big and strong!

Other items we are looking for now:

• Strong clip-on leashes and medium and large collars for dogs (we are really short on these!)
• Paper goods: Tissues, toilet paper and especially paper towels
• Clay cat litter: Unscented preferred
• Dog toys: Strong washable Galileo nylon bones or Kong rubber dog toys - largest sizes
• Small animal supplies: Food, treats, toys, bedding (Aspen or Pine only, please - no Cedar),
  Timothy Hay, carrots and apples for rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, ferrets, etc.
• Cat beds: They need to be small (must fit in our cages) and machine washable
• Laundry detergent
• Cleaning supplies: Dish soap, bathroom cleaners, Windex, bleach
• Dog and cat treats: Soft training treats for dogs especially needed
• Metal folding chairs
• Animal-themed children's books, stickers, notepads, craft kits, magic markers, etc. for humane ed classes
• Gift cards to Price Chopper, Hannaford, Wal*mart, Target, Michael's Crafts, JoAnne's Fabrics, PetSmart, PetCo, etc.
• Office supplies: Postage stamps and gift cards to Office Max or Staples
• Party supplies: Balloons, paper plates, napkins, cups, table coverings, etc - especially PURPLE!
• And of course, cash donations really help the most!

IMPORTANT: If you do not see the item you are dropping off on this list, PLEASE check with us first to make sure it's something we can use.

Please NO pillows, blankets, comforters, sheets, sleeping bags, rugs, large animal beds, etc.
If it can't fit into a normal washing machine and withstand multiple washings we can't use it!
