Volunteers play a very important role in helping the animals. Without them, we simply would not be able to do as much as we do to care for the animals, assist pet owners, and provide humane education programming. Through special events and outreach activities, our volunteers teach the community about important humane issues that affect us all, and what the APF is doing to address them. In addition, they assist in one of the most critical aspects of caring for the animals — fundraising — to ensure that resources are available to continue our work. Since the APF is funded by donations, this type of volunteer help is vital to the organization.

Becoming a Volunteer

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and you are at least 18 years of age, call us at 374-3944, ext. 118.

There are lots of things younger people can do to help the animals on their own, with classmates, or with their scout troops. In fact, the majority of our supply donations come from kids who care about the animals.

How Kids Can Help

________________________________________________________________
Our Current Volunteer Needs

Greeters - Enjoy working with people? We're looking for someone to help answer our busy phone line and to greet patrons when they enter the shelter. Saturday volunteers are needed most (between noon and 4:30; partial shifts OK).

Cleaners - Assist staff with cleaning of various areas, as well as dishes and laundry. Weekdays between 8 am and noon, and Sundays between 9 am and noon. (Partial shifts OK).

Pet Professor - Love working with kids? Volunteers are needed to help with humane education programming, a great opportunity for retired or part-time educators. Requires some flexibility to help with after-school and summer programs.

Other Ways to Help - We can always use a hand with special events, such as the Fireplug 500 Walk for Animals, Pet Pictures with Santa, rabies vaccination clinics and tabling events. People willing to wear our mascot costumes, “Spay” the cat and “Neuter” the dog, are always in demand. The time commitment for each event varies. Your specialized skills can also be put to use for a particular project. Use your best talent, such as carpentry, photography, marketing, and grant writing to help the animals. Please call us to explore the possibilities!
