Dashia

"Before"

"After"

Dashia was a 1 year old shih tzu, but no one could tell under all her hair.  She came to us as a stray and looked more like a mop than a dog.  Her owner, no longer able to care for her, had neglected to brush her or take her to the groomer.  Her coat was so badly matted that she could not see and had difficulty walking.  Our vet tech gave her probably the first hair cut she’d ever had in her life, and she felt like a new girl.  It was wonderful to see her outside, feeling the breeze on her skin for the first time in who knows when.

This dog had her day when Daniel came.  He took one look at her and knew she would be going home with him.  He says he wouldn’t give her up for love or money, and she goes everywhere with him.  He takes her to the senior center to see all his friends, and everyone loves her.

Gabriella (aka Swiper)

At the end of August, a young black and white cat came to the shelter, named Swiper.  We quickly learned how she got her name, as she would reach out to "swipe" at anything near her paws – especially ponytails!  Charming as she was, Swiper waited two months for her forever home.

It was on a special Sunday adoption day, when nearly 30 animals found new homes, that Swiper got lucky.  Her new mom says:  “I was lucky enough to have adopted a beautiful cat named Gabriella, aka Swiper.  I was a little concerned that she had been with you since August, now I can't imagine how she lasted that long, especially with all of the adoptions that took place over that weekend.  Maybe it is true, that a cat picks its owner, and she was just waiting for us to come and find her. She is very affectionate, uses her scratching post, and is now slowly learning to get along with our other cat Callie. I just wanted to let you know that she is happy and healthy in her new home and we are delighted to call her our own. Thank you for taking care of her for so long!”

Amelia & Emilio

Amelia

Emilio

Amelia arrived at the shelter on September 18th, Emilio about a week later. Both were strays, picked up by animal control. After a little research, we discovered that they were found within one mile of each other! There's a good chance these two used to be housemates, and maybe even littermates, as both appeared to be about
9 years old.

Amelia and Emilio were moved into the same run so they could keep each other company while they awaited new homes.  They reminded us of an old married couple – napping after dinner, taking leisurely strolls around the yard.

While they were both adopted on the same day, just over one month after their arrival, they did not go home together.  But it all worked out - Amelia is now living the good life with one of the shelter’s volunteers, while Emilio has retired with another volunteer’s grandfather!
