Looking in the mirror!

My name is Howard and I am 10 months old. That may seem young, but to me it already seems like forever. That’s because I have spent almost my entire life in a kennel. I started out in a shelter in Georgia, where they have so many dogs that we sometimes have to live outside together in pens. It was really over-crowded there, so I was happy when the APF was able to take me into their shelter. It was so nice to have my own space and my own bed, and to not have to share my toys! I have been here since November, and in just a couple of months I will turn 1 year old. You can imagine that living my whole life in a shelter has been tough. I don’t know what it’s like out in the world, and I need someone who is really patient to show me things. I get nervous because everything is new, and sometimes when dogs get nervous we don’t know how to react other than to run, so my new family needs a nice yard for me to feel secure in. And there’s a lot of things I’ve probably never seen or heard before (like telephones and vacuums) that I need someone to teach me about.

I know that I might not be the dog you thought you were looking for. I am not that perfect puppy you can just scoop up right away and play in the park with. But I promise that with a lot of love and patience, I can be the dog I was always meant to be. I just need someone to help me get there.

Thanks for listening.

Love, Howard

Yippee!  Running around in the yard.
